MELKSHAM did its bit for Sport Relief last weekend as local people of all ages took part in fundraising activities to help push the national appeal past a record £56million.
Pupils at Bowerhill Pre-School took part in a sports session for the fundraiser, and were paid a special visit by television star Timmy the lamb from Timmy Time.
Players at Melksham Netball Club raised over £300 by taking part in a netball match against their team sponsor, Bath accountants O’Hara Wood.
Player Sue Mortimer said, “Team player of the match for O’Hara Wood went to Joe Wood who responded excellently to his instructions from the team coach, and Melksham’s player of the match went to Amy Brandon.
“I’d like to thank Frank Scott for umpiring and all the participants, sponsors and supporters for making it such a fun night. So far £305.50 has been raised for Sport Relief.
“Both teams look forward to a rematch for Children in Need in November.”
Sport Relief took place from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th March and broke its fundraising record, with nearly £57million raised by Monday.
Half of all the money raised by the public is spent in the UK, with the other half used to make a difference in the world’s poorest communities.
