THE awards for this year’s Melksham in Bloom competition were handed out in a special presentation during the Melksham ClimateFest event on Sunday.
Mayor of Melksham, cllr Simon Crundell, presented the awards with Katherine and Julian White crowned the overall winners for their innovative and environmentally friendly garden.
For the competition this year, Melksham Town Council challenged gardeners to ‘go green’ and create entries inspired by the theme of ‘environmental responsibility’.
With their innovative use of ‘upcycled’ ornaments and scrap wood, and use of insect friendly wildflowers, Katherine and Julian wowed the judges winning ‘Best innovative garden design’ and ‘Most environmentally friendly garden’, as well as being the overall winners of the annual competition.
“With the awards being made during ClimateFest, it was fitting that Katherine and Julian were overall winners with their environment-friendly garden,” said Miriam Zaccarelli, Community Development Officer at Melksham Town Council.

Courtyard: Gillian Clancy; Michael Clarke. External display with no garden: David Walker; Nikki Rowe. Best single tub/container: Bryan & Veronica Sandford; Nikki Rowe; David Walker. Best single hanging basket: Bruce Petty; Bryan & Veronica Sandford; Jenny Fell.
Best garden feature involving water: Laura Harding; Christine & Andy York; David Walker. Best innovative garden design: Katherine & Julian White; David Walker; Jenny Fell. Most environmentally friendly: Katherine & Julian White; Laura Harding; Jenny Fell.
Commercial/ Club Premises: Best external floral display: Market Tavern; Waitrose Upcycled Garden; The Bear. Best shop window display: Dorothy House; Cobblers Bench; The Samovar.
