CALLING all budding gardeners, Melksham Town Council and Melksham in Bloom want to re-assure you that the famous Melksham in Bloom gardening competition is planned to go ahead this year.

We’re having to make a few adjustments to the categories and potentially to the judging protocols in order to comply with prevailing government COVID-19 guidance at the time. Full details will available for ‘Melksham in Bloom’ shortly, but the competition categories are available right now. This will certainly give time to prepare for the competition. The full details will include a judging date and details regarding the arrangements for presentation of awards. Much of this fine detail will depend on how the COVID-19 situation develops. Winners and runners up will be notified as soon as possible after the competition judging takes place.
As usual, there are several categories for people to enter their own gardens in. We’re also maintaining categories for businesses, residential homes and best street.
We’re also launching a town-wide front garden sunflower competition – we’re looking for: the tallest front garden sunflower, the largest diameter front garden flower seed head (excl. petals) and the best front garden display of multiple sunflowers. The sunflower competition will be judged separately, in late August, when the sunflowers are mature.
As always, Melksham Town Council would like to the Melksham in Bloom team for their support with this project and that of the Melksham Gardeners’ Society.
For more information on the 2020 competition categories, please either see the Melksham Town Council website, www.melkshamtown.co.uk, contact the Town Hall on 01225 704 187, email us at townhall@melksham-tc.gov.uk or see the Melksham Town Facebook page and Twitter feed.
