Melksham Town Ladies got their league campaign off to the perfect start with an impressive 5–2 away victory over Salisbury Ladies.
Facing a physical and experienced Salisbury side, Melksham’s young team showed real tenacity and togetherness, matching their opponents throughout and producing an excellent all-round performance.
Izzy McGuinness was a constant threat, firing home a superb hat-trick, while Lily Bateman added an excellent brace to complete the scoring.
At the other end, Melksham defended superbly, with young goalkeeper Amelia Burlingham producing an outstanding display between the posts.
The result continues an excellent start to the season for Melksham, following their recent FA Cup success, and gives the team the ideal start to their league campaign.
“We’re incredibly proud of the players,” said manager Adam Mulliss. “Salisbury gave us a really physical test, but the girls stood up to it, worked for each other and showed exactly what this young squad is about.”
