Melksham & District Link is pleased to announce the groups new secretary is Heather Newman.
The retiring secretary Doreen Drew will be very much missed but the committee are very pleased to welcome the new secretary Heather Newman.
Heather has lived in Melksham all her life attending both Lowbourne and George Ward Schools. She started her working life in Melksham Library in 1971, she retired in 2013 after working for 42 years for Wiltshire Council. Heather is looking forward to her new voluntary position.
Melksham Link is a local service taking people who do not have their own transport to medical appointments. This is run entirely by volunteers and without them there would be no service.
Jeanette Nash said, “Melksham Link is always looking to recruit new volunteers, currently we need driver car owners to take people to their medical appointments, an allowance of 42p per mile is paid to the driver by Link for every journey.
“We also need a couple of co-ordinators. This job entails taking phone messages from the people who need transport and passing the details on to the drivers. For more details about these invaluable volunteering positions please telephone 01225 340589.
‘We are all volunteers, we are all valuable, we are all making a difference in our community.”
