Sat. 4th Jan. Dorset & Wilts 1 North Melksham 29 Warminster 12
An impressive performance sees Melksham move to 2nd place in the league table by defeating previous occupants Warminster 29-12.
Melksham were first on the scoreboard with a penalty struck by Alistair Smith. A strong competition from both teams followed, Warminster finding an overlap for the winger to touch down, the conversion wide. The home team response was to mount continued pressure in the visitors’ half, forcing three more penalty infringements ,all slotted by Smith to finish the half 12-5.
On the restart, Warminster gave away another kickable penalty for Smith to nail, but regrouped to sustain an attack on the home line, finally reaping reward with a converted try. Melksham piled on the pressure, attacking their line from different areas and through fierce defence, Captain Nick Suter carried hard to score the first converted home try, the team having been judged to have dropped the ball over the line minutes earlier. More of the same generated the final try of the game with Warminster defence under pressure, Full back Adam Davies, running a perfect line, received the ball at pace to step the incoming tacklers and scored. The reliable boot of Smith adding the extras to see the final score 29-12. Man of the match Adam Davies.
