FOUR year 9 pupils from Melksham Oak Community School recently competed in the grand finals of the Flying Start Challenge.
The Flying Start Challenge is an engineering competition in the South West of England run by eight aerospace companies to encourage young people to take up an interest and possible career in engineering.
Darren Hyland from the school who accompanied the students said, “We had a great day, it was topped off when we were awarded the ‘Flying Start Challenge Structural Challenge Winners of 2016’.
“The boys were amazing and beat 31 other teams in a challenge that involved making three structures from paper that were tested to destruction.
“The boys made such amazing structures that the testers ran out of weights to put on the test bed 20KG, so not only did they win, they beat the test rig!”
