Melksham’s parkrun on Saturday welcomed visitors from six counties as far afield as Barnsley to join over 130 local runners for their 46th event.
Organisers say, “By the time we reach our 1st birthday celebration event on 15th December, over 1,600 parkrunners of all abilities, some walking and some running, will have covered well over 30,000 kilometres around our great venue.
“Our event next Saturday is taken over by Forest Fitness to give all of the regular volunteers a chance to run. Forest Fitness is all about community and the coming together of people who enjoy running at all levels. They meet at the Foresters Arms every Wednesday at 6.30pm and welcome all who can run a minimum of 5k. Many members run parkrun or volunteer regularly, but Saturday is the first serious ‘takeover’ and shows their much-appreciated commitment to the continued success of our parkrun.
“All parkruns are free to everyone (like our coffee and cakes in the post-run cafe in the old cricket pavilion, at least until the end of the year!). Just Google ‘Melksham parkrun’, register on the website, print off your barcode and simply turn up with it just before 9am Saturday morning. No need to check in or anything like that, simple. Many health issues have been shown to benefit from taking part in parkrun, so why not have a word with your doctor before deciding it’s not for you. Many GP practices have now signed up to the parkrun practices initiative. Thanks also to volunteer Mark Somerville for the photos.”
