Two Melksham Rugby Club players helped Dorset and Wiltshire clinch the Gill Burns Division 3 Trophy in dramatic fashion at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium recently.
Charlotte Wellon and Nicole Crowley played in the Division 3 County Championship Final against Sussex in a thrilling encounter that ended in a dramatic penalty shootout.
In a hard-fought and evenly-matched game, Dorset and Wiltshire were leading with a minute to go but Sussex converted a penalty in front of the post to draw the game 15-15.
The game went to a nerve-racking kicking competition, with each team taking six kicks from different positions. Dorset & Wilts held their nerve to win 2–0, securing the Gill Burns Division 3 Trophy.
“A massive well done to the girls who represented Melksham Rugby Club; they made the badge and town proud,” said Scott Simmons from Melksham Rugby Club.
“Credit also has to go to Sophie Gilson and Tia Hunter-Hashka who played their part to get Dorset and Wilts to the final.”
