Melksham Poppy Appeal calls for volunteers

Volunteers are being sought by a local armed forces charity to assist with this year’s Poppy Appeal campaign.

Organisers from the Melksham Branch of the Royal British Legion are hoping to have tables in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Lidl stores from 26th October to 7th November, depending on the number of volunteers available.

Volunteers are being asked to staff the tables for three hours in the morning or three hours in the afternoon.

This year’s Poppy Appeal will open with poppies and collecting tins in all the outlets from 22nd October until 11th November, raising funds for the Royal British Legion to support serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces.

The 2024/25 Poppy Appeal collected £30,807, up from the previous year’s total of £30,100.

As well as seeking appeal volunteers, the branch is also inviting new general members. Trevor Paterson, head of the Melksham Branch of the Royal British Legion, said, “We are always looking for new members. We meet at the Foresters Arms Pub and Restaurant on the second-to-last Tuesday of the month at 7pm!”

If anyone would like to volunteer or find out more about joining, please contact Trevor Paterson at trevorpaterson747@hotmail.com or on 07884 050097.
