EIGHT Melksham residents were passengers aboard a bus which overturned into a field off the A385 in Devon, with one severely injured.
The double-decker Stagecoach South West bus, travelling from Torquay to Plymouth, crashed in Totnes, Devon at 11am on Saturday 5th October resulting in the vehicle overturning.
A total of 37 people were injured in the crash, with eight people being seriously injured. Eight of the bus passengers were from Melksham; four of these sustained minor injuries and have now returned home, but one female passenger is said to be severely injured and remains in hospital.
One passenger described how the bus starting swerving before losing control and then overturning into a field. Passengers who were trapped in the top decker of the bus had to be rescued through a hole cut in the roof.
Police said that the bus driver was not arrested, and is helping them with their inquiries. Stagecoach South West has provided police with CCTV footage to help their investigation into the cause of the crash.
