MELKSHAM Rugby Ladies made history at the weekend with their first ever competitive league match.
Led by newly-elected captain Charlotte Wellon, the team played away to Yeovil Rugby Ladies. On behalf of the club Jeremy Flower said, “The result didn’t go the ladies’ way, they lost 37-0, but we could not fault the passion and commitment – not only to the badge but to each other.
“This fixture was the first step for the Melksham RFC Ladies team on their competitive journey and it won’t be long before they will see the hard work pay off by getting their first win.
“They are in action again this weekend, playing their first home game against Basingstoke this coming Sunday 15th September, kick off 2.30pm at Melksham Rugby Club.”
Also this fortnight, Melksham RFC announced the election of their 1st team captain, Nick Suter.
Jeremy said, “Nick has been a player for the club for a number of years and has proven himself as a leader both on and off the pitch.”
The club is always looking for new players, young, old, male and female. If you are interested please contact the club via their website or Facebook page. Senior training is on Mondays and Thursdays at 7pm; ladies training is on Wednesdays at 7pm.
