An initiative to save rugby kit from landfill and support families facing financial hardship has launched at Melksham Rugby Club thanks to a local business.
The club has introduced a new kit bin where players can donate their old Melksham Rugby Club kit for others to use. The bin was donated by Dave Guley from Melksham Recycling and Skips Ltd and is open for anyone in Melksham to use.
Youth section chairman Simon Laidlaw said, “If your children have outgrown any club or rugby kit that’s still in good condition, simply pop it into the kit bin at the club. Our amazing volunteers will sort, display and offer the donated kit on occasional Sundays, where families can take what they need in exchange for a voluntary donation.”
“The initiative came about from one of our early development coaches, Joe Aygul. It’s great environmentally, but it is also good for a lot of families who can’t really afford to buy new kit.”
