THREE Melksham scout leaders have received awards to honour their long-standing service with the association.
Caroline Williams and David (Grizzly) Williams set up the town’s Beaver Scouts section 30 years ago and have both received a 30 Year Award to mark the milestone, at an awards evening held by the Wiltshire West District Scouts on Friday 6th October at the Southwick and North Bradley Scout HQ.
“It was a lovely awards evening,” says Chris Broom, district lead volunteer who presented the awards. “Caroline and David saw a need [to start this group in Melksham] and have been running it ever since.”
After 30 years, both volunteers are looking to retire, “There has just been a recruitment drive with another six volunteers recruited for the group,” says Chris.
Another Melksham scout volunteer Andy Clayton, who is a trustee board member, was given a 10 Year Award to mark a decade of volunteering.
“The awards are a great achievement for some very dedicated adults,” says Chris. “The evening also saw the presentation to members across the district; everyone enjoyed refreshments following the presentations served by Active Support Member Maggie Morris.”
