Many years ago the president of Melksham Speakers Club was very shy and joined the Association of Speakers Clubs to overcome the shyness.
Little did Sheila Jackson know that she would be participating and winning speaking competitions and last weekend, be acting as chief judge at the Annual Conference of Speakers Clubs.
Sheila explains, “The conference is held every year and brings together members from all over the UK. It is an excellent way of making long lasting friendships and being a part of a vibrant organisation which will give you confidence in everything that you do. Confidence which is essential for us to enjoy our lives to the full.
“At Melksham Speakers Club, we teach you to gain that confidence and enjoy your life, your career and improve your friendships and social life. It is not just getting up and speaking on a chosen subject, we challenge people to bring their presentations, give votes of thanks, wedding speeches and many other situations which require you to speak to a few or to a large number of people. By doing this in a confident manner our members are happier and more secure in what they challenge themselves to do in their every day life. It is not as distressing as it may seem, we are a friendly and kind, we will encourage you to achieve what you want to do.
“So challenge yourself by putting your fear behind you and join us. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at the Rachel Fowler Centre at 7.30pm. You will receive a warm welcome and lots of encouragement and support. Our next meeting is on Tuesday 14th May. If you require further information contact Sheila on 07726 537452.
