A MELKSHAM sports therapist has been working at the Commonwealth Games as part of the Tongan 7s rugby team.

Aurora Paris was part of the Tongan support team in Birmingham, offering injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation in one the Games’ most physical and demanding sports.
“The Commonwealth Games have been amazing!” Aurora told Melksham News. “The atmosphere has been awesome and getting to know other teams and cultures has been really special.
“The opening ceremony was unbelievable! It’s something you see on TV and never expect to be a part of. When you head out into the arena, that moment everyone is looking at you and cheering for you, words can’t explain that feeling.
“The atmosphere for the whole Games has been really positive; everyone is here to represent their country and do the best that they can.
“The volunteers have been really helpful around both the village and stadium also, making our jobs less stressful!”
Aurora landed her role with the Tongan national side after studying at Hartpury University in Gloucester and completing an integrated placement year at Bath Rugby, working with the Premiership team.
She is currently in Chile for the Challenger Series, where the Tongan men’s and women’s teams will the bidding to qualify for the World Series.
“The team are now well settled in Chile as they chase the World Series spot,” she said. “The winning men’s and women’s sides at the tournament will be promoted to the World Series next season.
“After Chile, we will travel back to New Zealand with the team for some down time, before preparing for the World Cup 7s in South Africa later this year.
“I will be starting a Masters in physiotherapy in January. However, a lot of my future depends on how we do in Chile!”
