Melksham Tandoori celebrates 30 years

FAMILY-run business, Melksham Tandoori is proud to have celebrated its 30th anniversary.

The Indian restaurant and takeaway on Church Street has been providing authentic Indian cuisine since November 1985 and has developed a reputation as one of the best Indian restaurants in the area.

Sayeed Ibrahim from Melksham Tandoori said, “My father Mayna and my uncle Shopon set the restaurant up in November 1985 and it has been a family-run business ever since. To have been part of the Melksham community for 30 years is amazing and we’re very proud.

“To celebrate our 30th anniversary we have refurbished inside the restaurant and we are rolling out a new menu which features exciting new dishes and flavours. We’ve extended our range of seafood dishes so you can now find scallops and squid on the menu as well as halibut, soft shell crab and sea bass.

“The feedback from customers who have tried the new dishes has been brilliant, they’ve been well received which we’re so happy about.

“Our extensive range of traditional dishes, like tikka masala, korma and madras are still available but our new range of signature dishes offer something a bit different for those who want to try flavours that you wouldn’t find anywhere else.

“Our chef Abdul, who has been with the restaurant from the start, has been working hard to create unique dishes that are fresh and full of flavour. It’s been a challenge getting everything perfect but we are excited for our customers to try the new dishes.

“Our customers are more like good friends and a lot of the time, it doesn’t feel like a job, it’s just like having your friends come for dinner. There is always a great atmosphere in the restaurant and even when people come to pick up their takeaway they will stay for a drink and chat.

“I didn’t think I wanted to get into the restaurant business when I was at school but over the years I’ve grown to love it and that’s down to the people of Melksham. They’ve been loyal and supportive and we are so grateful to them.

“Because we are a family-run business, everyone works together as a team and the staff are part of the family as well. We all make decisions and put ideas forward, although dad gets the final say.

“We are so thankful for the last 30 years because you don’t see many family businesses survive, especially nowadays, and it’s thanks to our loyal customers, they are reason we’re still here.

“My dad opened the restaurant when Indian food wasn’t as popular as it is now but people stuck with it and are still coming back now. We are looking forward to the next 30 years.”
