The Town ended their campaign with a 3-2 home loss against their visitors from Devon in Buckland Athletic.
After a season which had seen the Town safely retain their Premier Division spot after a less than perfect opening start to the season and retain the Wiltshire Senior Cup the final game of the season took on the air of a pre season game.
In the knowledge a 3-0 victory would see the side climb to 5th place in the league manager Darren Perrin opted for an attacking 4-3-3 formation but in truth the tactic didn’t bear much fruit as the visitors overran the home midfield and found plenty of space.
The opening goal of the game came on eight minutes when Ben Thomson crossed from the left and Dan Kovacs headed home from eight yards to put the Town 1-0 ahead.
On 10 minutes Buckland equalised when Booth found himself completely alone and looking at least 3 yards offside tucked the ball home with all awaiting the refs whistle which did not follow.
Tom Drewiit in the home goal made a couple of decent saves as the half wore on whilst Melksham squandered a couple of half chances by Higdon and Ridout from dangerous looking corners before on 32 minutes Booth took advantage of time and space to rifle a superb 25 yard effort into the top corner to put Buckland 2-1 ahead, a lead, they held until the break.
Just before the break Alex Hillier replaced Will Stead. On 55 minutes the Town were gifted an equaliser when Jeannin misplaced a back pass into the path of Kovacs who slotted home the ball to make it 2-2 .
However on 70 minutes the Town failed to pick up the run of Booth and he headed home unchallenged to complete his hatrick and put the visitors 3-2 ahead.
A flurry of last substitutions saw Josh Robinson and Dave Thompson introduced but the town could not break down the resolute Buckland defence and they held on for a deserved 3-2 victory and the Town had to be content with a fine 7th place finish.
