MELKSHAM Town FC have stepped up their preparations for the Toolstation Western Premier League with victories over two Wiltshire rivals.
With the season due to start on Saturday 10th August away to Hallen, Town have steadily improved in pre-season.
They began their friendlies with a narrow 1-0 loss away to Wells City from the Western League Division One.
They followed this up with a 3-2 away success against Amesbury Town. The match was due to be played at the Conigre but the sustained hot dry weather meant the pitch was unplayable.
The following friendly against Shrewton United was also due to be played at the Conigre but was moved to Stanley Park.
Melksham took the lead in the opening five minutes and the score remained that way until half time despite Town being on top.
In the second half Shrewton gradually came back into the game and deservedly equalised in the 70th minute.
This seemed to spark Melksham into life who took advantage of some tired Shrewton legs to win 7-1 having scored six in just 20 minutes.
Melksham finish their pre-season with an away fixture at Cricklade on Saturday 3rd August before hosting Chippenham Park on Tuesday 6th August.
The reserves who will play in the Wiltshire Division One League this season began their friendlies with a 2-1 success over Beversbrook before going down 7-0 to Westbury United from the Toolstation Western League Division One
