MELKSHAM Town FC is firmly back in the upper echelon of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division after a ten-game unbeaten streak in September and October.
The team, which hasn’t lost since the first week of September, started this week in 3rd place in the league after a 2-2 draw at home against Bitton on Saturday 31st October.
Manager Darren Perrin said, “The Bitton game was a match dominated by Melksham Town. We were winning convincingly against a 10-man side for about 86 minutes, until the team just committed total suicide at the end of the game.
“Through complacency and errors we gave away two sloppy goals in the final minutes. It was a huge slip up and was three points thrown away.”
Despite their slip up, Darren Perrin has no concerns about the players’ ability to maintain their strong form.
He continued, “No team is perfect and it’s important to put everything into perspective; we’re still having an extremely good season.
“I’m proud of how far Melksham Town has come in the last couple of years, and of what we achieve at the club. The players are all from Melksham, with the exception of two, and we don’t pay them £1,500 a week like some teams in this league do.
“It’s hard to have the success this team has had with no budget, but these players continue to punch above their weight and improve their game.
“This year was never going to be easy, and I sometimes think we’re a victim of our own success. Take Chelsea – they won the Premier League last year but now look at them; they’re near the relegation zone and talking about sacking the manager. It’s very hard to repeat a winning season.
“I will always defend the Melksham players for what they continue to achieve here. The top teams are starting to break away in the division and we are going up with them.
“There are some tough games coming up, but we’re looking forward to them and always looking to take that next step further. We do want to keep improving and we do want to win the league again.”
Melksham Town FC’s next fixture is at home this Saturday, 7th November. The match is a Wiltshire Senior Cup tie against Bradford Town. Kick off is at 3pm.
