This month marks a significant milestone for Melksham Tyre Supplies, as the family-run business celebrates its 60th anniversary.
Based on Station Approach, next to the town’s railway station, the company has been providing reliable and friendly service to generations of customers.
It’s run by James Love whose father, Colin, started the company in 1964.
In the early 1960s Colin worked in the service department for Avon Tyres in their Melksham plant, which later became Cooper Tires.
He saw the need for a retail tyre store in Melksham to sell Avon Tyres which were manufactured – but not sold – in the town and so in 1964, he took the plunge to start his own business.
Melksham Tyre Supplies was born – and the business is still going strong today.
James joined in the company in 1998 when he was still a teenager and took over the day-to-day running of the business over 25 years ago. “When dad started the business in 1964, he had a simple mission – to offer a high-quality tyre service at affordable prices. And that is still the aim today,” said James. “We keep our prices competitive and we provide an honest, reliable service. Our success has always been based on looking after our customers and I think that personal touch is what sets us apart. People know they can trust us to give them honest advice and dependable service. “We’ve got many, many customers who have been with us for decades and some going back to the very early years in the 1960s. They are almost like family now.
“We keep a wide range of well-known tyres in stock including car tyres, van tyres, 4×4 tyres, caravan tyres and high-performance tyres with an excellent range of brands to chose from. “We also offer puncture repairs, wheel balancing, wheel alignment and batteries.” With highly experienced staff, three drive-in bays and a stock of over 1,200 tyres, from budget to premium, they serve customers from Melksham and all the surrounding towns and also offer a mobile tyre fitting service in the local area. “We pride ourselves on offering the very best professional advice through our fully trained staff and with a friendly and welcoming environment for everyone,” added James. “We are fortunate to have a fantastic team and some of them have been with us for many year,” he said. “Their expertise and dedication are crucial to our success. We wouldn’t be here today without their hard work.”
