A MELKSHAM player led the Bath Rugby Ladies to league victory recently, when the team clinched the Championship South 1 title with a win against Hove to secure their first league win in over a decade. They now face two games that could secure a promotion to the Allianz Premier League.
Robyn Price, who was born and raised in Melksham, started her rugby career with Melksham Rugby Club when she was nine years old. She is now the captain of the Bath Rugby Ladies team, which are due to enter the play offs against winners of the Championship North 1 League, Cheltenham Tigers, on 16th April.
Robyn said, “We secured the victory with one game to go. If we win this next game against Cheltenham Tigers, we will be going to the play offs in Twickenham. We scored a bonus point try in 16 minutes and held it together until the very end before celebrating! The overall result was 62-0. It was an amazing result!”
Reflecting on her first ever rugby experiences in Melksham and being in the minority as a female in the sport at the time, Robyn said, “Melksham is my home club. When I started there, it was only me and two other girls in a mixed team. Then when I moved to the under 15s, more girls were playing and that gave me encouragement.” She then did one year with the under 18s, then moved away and changed clubs to focus on playing and learning about rugby on a more in-depth level.
“I just want to say thank you to Melksham for everything they have offered me. I also want to give a massive shout out and say a huge well done to the Bath Rugby Ladies and thank you to all our sponsors.”
The play off final will be held in Twickenham on 30th April, with two teams battling it out to secure promotion to the Allianz Premier League.
