A MELKSHAM woman is going to attempt to overcome her fear of heights by skydiving to raise money for Women’s Aid.
Candice Verallo is going to complete the tandem jump on Saturday 30th August in Swindon and has a fundraising target of £1,000 for a charity she is passionate about.
Candice will be supported by her sister-in-law Hollie Jenkins who will also skydive on the same day. They chose to raise money for Woman’s Aid after Candice’s aunt died after suffering from domestic violence.
Candice said, “We are doing this in memory of my aunty and as well as the money, we also want to raise awareness of Woman Aid as they are a fantastic charity that is working to end domestic violence against women and children.
“This time of year marks the 11th anniversary of my aunty’s death so it seems like a good way to mark the occasion. I am terrified of heights so I am not looking forward to it at all. Hollie decided on the skydive as she really wants to do it and I am hoping people will be more generous in their sponsorship as I am doing something so far out of my comfort zone.
“We have a target of £1,000 but we want to raise as much as possible and we have both paid for the jump with our own money, so all proceeds will go to the charity.”
Women’s Aid supports over 370 specialist domestic violence services across England, including refuges, outreach services, advice centres and local helplines. As a result of the work by Womans Aid, more than half a million vulnerable woman and children receive the support and information they desperately need to escape from a dangerous and abusive home life.
