THREE local women have raised over £600 for the Alzheimer’s Society after taking part in the Memory Walk.
Laura Dimond, Lottie Dimond and Thea Lewis took part in an organised four-mile walk around Corsham to raise money for the charity after Lottie and Laura’s grandmother, who was suffering from dementia, died last month.
This was the inspiration behind the idea to raise money and the group also held a recent tea party where tea, cakes and raffle were on sale and helped raise over £100.
The Alzheimer’s Society asks anyone taking part in the Memory Walk to raise £50 per person. However, between the three taking part they easily passed this and have currently raised over £600.
Thea Lewis from Melksham, who was part of the team said, “I did the walk to support them as they are my oldest friends. Also, it’s for an excellent cause and it is one of the charities that doesn’t have enough recognition.
“The walk itself was great. At the beginning, we walked a mile to the registration point as we took the wrong turning and ended up being lost, however this was just to warm up the leg muscles! We had lots of stiles and hills to climb and we didn’t wear the best of shoes! It took us just over an hour to complete, what with wearing the wrong shoes and getting lost, but it was worth it at the end, receiving our medals.
“We are all really proud for doing it, and our family and friends have been really supportive as soon as we mentioned it back in July that we wanted to raise money for this charity. We are definitely considering to walk again next year, and we encourage people to join in as it is for a great, worthy cause. We’d also like to thank everyone who has supported and sponsored us as we would not have been able to raise the money we have without their help.”
