A determined group of women from Melksham has raised over £10,000 for a breast cancer research and support charity after their friend was diagnosed with the disease.
The group of seven women, who have been friends since school, started their fundraising mission for Breast Cancer Now after one of their members, Jasmine Dickson, was diagnosed with breast cancer on her 31st birthday.
Following her treatment, Jasmine and her friends set out to raise £10,000 by her 32nd birthday in May, but they have hit their target ahead of schedule. The charity provided invaluable support to Jasmine and her young family throughout her treatment.
At a successful race night held at the Melksham Cons Club, the group raised £5,100, bringing their total to over £10,000.
“We were incredibly overwhelmed and grateful for the contributions everyone made to the race night, whether through sponsorships or donating raffle prizes. A huge thank you also goes to the Cons Club for hosting the event for us,” said one of the friends, Natasha Goddard-Wellon.
Other events the group has organised include a raffle, a quiz night, and an afternoon tea at the Gourmet Brownie Kitchen in Devizes. They will also be holding a band night at the Melksham Cons Club in March and, in May, they will take part in a 20-mile Pink Ribbon sponsored walk for Breast Cancer Now.
“We have been blown away by the amount raised. This money will make a real difference to those impacted by breast cancer,” Natasha said.
