Melksham’s very own #charitymorphman, Robbie Newton – recently ran the Brighton and London Marathons to raise more than £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Robbie said, “As you may or may not know, I love doing my bit for charity!
“For 2021, I thought #charitymorphman needed an even bigger challenge, so I decided to do both the Brighton Marathon in September and London Marathon in October! Training has been ongoing and although I had coronavirus in February, nothing is going to stop me doing whatever it takes for Macmillan Cancer Support.
“The two marathons were my slowest to date, however I wanted to use this year to enjoy the whole experience, rather than go for personal bests. The atmosphere at both events was incredible, especially in London wearing the morphsuit! At the time of writing this, we stand at £2,310.01 plus gift aid which is £2,626.38.
“After contracting Covid-19 in February, I couldn’t see how I was going to be able to do one marathon this year, let alone Brighton Marathon and London Marathon, but I wanted to do whatever it takes to help Macmillan Cancer Support and once again you helped smash the target as you always do. Thank you again to everyone who has donated; I really appreciate all your support.
“Macmillan are there to help people with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support. But right now, they can only be there for one in four people at diagnosis, so every penny helps.
“For instance, £31 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.”
