This year’s Poppy Appeal is due to run from 23rd October to 11th November, raising funds for the Royal British Legion to support serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces and provide care for their families.
The team at Melksham’s branch of the Royal British Legion are hoping to have tables in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Lidl stores from Monday 27th October until Saturday 8th November, depending on how many volunteers are available to help.
The 2024/25 appeal raised a total of £30,100.
Poppy Appeal organiser Trevor Paterson said, “This included a generous donation from Neil, the landlord of the Fox and Hounds pub, of £300 from their Christmas draw, and also a donation of £600 from the VE Day event they held in the garden.
“Ronnie Carter and Terry Milne, joint owners of the New Inn pub and restaurant, donated £450 during the year at various functions.”
If anyone would like to volunteer to help man tables in the stores for three hours in the mornings or three hours in the afternoons, please contact Trevor Paterson, Melksham Branch Poppy Appeal Organiser, at trevorpaterson747@hotmail.com or on mobile 07884 050097.
Trevor added, “We are always looking for new members. We meet at the Foresters Arms pub and restaurant on the second-last Tuesday of the month at 7pm.”
