LOCAL charity, Melksham Free Dining, held a fundraiser at the Assembly Hall, raising funds for the charity with a night of music, on Saturday 19th November.
Founder of Melksham Free Dining, Louisa Lewis, opened the night with thanks to the many people who have supported the charity and who specifically pulled out all the stops to make the fundraising evening a success.
Bruce, assistant manager at the Assembly Hall, had given over many hours of his free time to organising the event, and volunteers, Lesley Phillips, Lyn Barrow, and Pammie Jackson had produced brilliant raffle prizes, which yielded nearly £250 from the raffle ticket sales, making it the most successful raffle for Melksham Free Dining.
Organisers said, “All the artists appearing had kindly given their time for free; Carey Ann, Meet Your Feet and Melkshams’s own Jacob Jones Band. Over 100 people attended and Jacob Jones’ rock and roll music had everyone dancing, singing and feet tapping for most of the evening. Joined by their husbands, Melksham Free Dining volunteers Sue Bailey and Dawn Robinson led the dancing and were voted the Dancing Queens of the night.”
“It was the first public large fundraising event for Melksham Free Dining and was supported by cllr Mike Sankey and his wife Sue, the Melksham Free Dining volunteers, Wednesday diners and local residents, all of whom contributed to the amazing amount of £1,218 being raised.”
Earlier in the evening, co-founder of the charity, Deedee Mcleod, had said to the audience, “We are here to ease the pain of others and unashamedly I am asking for your money, so please dig deep for your community.”
Louisa Lewis said, “How incredibly generous people have been. It has reached our target of £1,000 and more. It was a magical night full of music, laughter and love. A huge, huge thank you to everyone that attended.”
