Melksham’s first-ever female town crier, Jax Brady, has resigned from the role but says she has many more events to attend over the summer before she steps down.
Jax, who will go down in Melksham’s history books as the first female town crier, was appointed at last year’s Food & River Festival when she won the town council’s competition.
She took over from the revered Peter Dauncey, who was in the role for 16 years.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute of being town crier and I highly recommend it,” explained Jax who works at Lacock C of E Primary School and is known for owning a sweet shop in the town for several years.
“It’s difficult to pick just one highlight, especially as I have so many more events to attend throughout the summer, but I’ve loved meeting new people and making new friends. Everyone has been so welcoming and I’ve been treated so well at each event. We really do have a wonderful community.”
Last year, Jax presented a special award to aspiring town crier Ada-Rose, who was a Year 3 pupil at Forest & Sandridge CE Primary School. She was inspired by the contestants at last year’s competition that she asked to have a go herself.
