A Christmas event planned for King George V Park will no longer take place after Melksham Town Council confirmed it will not be entering into an agreement with the organisers.
Plans were shared earlier this year for Melksham to host a Winter Wonderland event in the park, including an ice rink, live music and food stalls. Local events company Kingston Group had been due to run the event from mid-November until early January 2027.
Following a closed session discussion at Melksham Town Council’s recent Full Council meeting, town clerk Hayley Bell confirmed the event would no longer go ahead.
She said, “Due to circumstances outside of the council’s control, we will no longer be entering into an agreement with Kingston Group to hire the park. Melksham Winter Wonderland 2026 will therefore not be going ahead with this company.
“We share residents’ disappointment but are pleased to confirm that our usual Christmas events are unaffected. We look forward to another outstanding light display throughout the town, courtesy of the Melksham Christmas Lights Group, Sarum Avenue Lights and other residents.”
Kingston Group came under public scrutiny earlier this year after the sudden closure of The View in Westbury, a venue it operated, which left some events and weddings unable to go ahead. The venue has since reopened under new management with a new name.
