THE Mighty Titans of Bowerhill have once again conquered another ‘epic’ charity challenge – completing a 24-hour workout session.
The team of 26 fitness enthusiasts, who all train at New Era Fitness in Bowerhill, have raised over £7,000 for local charity Wiltshire Air Ambulance – almost triple their original target of £2,500.
Speaking to Melksham News minutes after the challenge had ended, group leader and owner of New Era Fitness, DJ Hussey, said, “We are so happy. We set the target at £2,500 as there are 26 of us, so we figured that would be roughly £100 each to raise. But we didn’t expect anything like the support that we have had, it’s incredible. It’s absolutely amazing that everyone has got behind us.”
During the 24-hours, the Titans took part in a variety of workouts, including strength training, runs, boxing, Zumba, yoga, cycling, and much more.
“It was so tough,” said DJ. “It was great at the start, there was a lot of high energy. But as soon as night hit it got really tough. And then from 3am to 6am we really started to struggle. We had half hour gaps and people were sleeping for 10 minutes at a time. I think I got 10 minutes – I curled up in the squat rack. It was exhausting. But as soon as the sun came up at 6am, it just lifted everybody. And for the last two hours the energy really lifted and people were giving it everything we had left.
“When we completed the challenge it was an unbelieveable feeling. Last year when we finished the run from Land’s End to John o’Groats, that was emotional – but for some reason today, maybe because of the fatigue, the huge sense of achievement was insane, it was so emotional.”
The 24-hour workout challenge is the fifth fundraising event organised by the fitness enthusiasts, who last year ran 1,000 miles from Land’s End to John o’Groats in just over six days, raising £20,000 for Wiltshire Mind.
The previous year the group cycled from London to Paris in three days. Including their latest challenge, the group has raised over £40,000 for various charities. And that total is set to rise even further next year, with another challenge ‘2020-20’ – 20 challenge events throughout 2020.
DJ said, “We will spend the whole year raising money. Events will include a 10km outdoor swim in Scotland, a 500-mile cycle ride around the north coast of Scotland, and we are going to Mount Olympus in Greece to climb to the submit. This all kicks off on January 1st 2020. We can’t wait to get started!”
