The Warminster Military Wives Choir who sang at Prince Harry’s Invictus Games last year will be appearing in a show organised to raise funds for Dorothy House Hospice Care.
The concert entitled “The Home Front “will take place at the Melksham Assembly Hall on ‘world hospice and palliative care day’ which is Saturday 10th October.
During dark times of conflict many songs have been written to lift the spirits of the nation which are so enjoyed today. Songs from the First and Second World Wars will be featured in the show, as well as modern songs made famous by Gareth Malone’s TV series and the Military Wives Choir
Also taking part will be The BJ BigBand, a local band under the musical direction of Chris Church-ouse. The band, formed in 2009 by Bren Jones, is based at Christian Malford and consists of saxes, trumpets, trombones and rhythm section, which is the same formation as Count Basie, Duke Ellington or Glenn Miller, not to mention more recent bands such as the Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, playing a variety of jazz and swing style music in the big band style.
The concert, presented by the Wiltshire Lodge of Agriculture one of 44 Masonic lodges in the county, is in appreciation of sacrifice made during conflicts past and present also in the centenary of the Women’s Institute movement which was formed in 1915. It had two clear aims: to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War.
