MELKSHAM’S volunteer-run youth charity is appealing for information after ‘mindless’ vandals smashed the walls outside the Canberra on Spa Road last weekend.
Jon Hubbard, founder and chair of Young Melksham, said he was shocked and angry to find piles of bricks strewn around the entrance to the youth centre, which the charity reopened in 2015.
The bricks had been knocked off the top of walls – apparently with tools – over the weekend of the 11th March. Young Melksham is asking people to speak out if they know who did it or saw anything happen.
“This was malicious criminal damage done by mindless idiots who either don’t understand or don’t care how it will affect other people,” Jon told Melksham News.
“It’s just wanton damage for the sake of damage. It will have far-reaching implications and the hundreds of pounds I’ll have to spend repairing this was money we were going to spend on young people.
“The majority of the young people are now going to pay the price for the pathetic and selfish actions of the minority.”
The damage was reported to police and the debris had to be cleared up before the centre could reopen.
Jon said money has already been spent improving security after people had broken into storage cupboards to use the electricity and WiFi.
