FOLLOWING the success of the first comedy showcase last month, Melksham Assembly hosts another night of live comedy on Friday 3rd June at 8pm.
The Assembly Hall continues to build on its reputation as the place to see live comedy.
This showcase features Joel Dommett, John Gordillo and Gareth Richards who are top class comedians but less well-known in the cabaret setting.
Joel Dommett is an exciting and fresh talent on the UK stand up comedy circuit who gained rave reviews for his Edinburgh shows, Neon Hero, Nunchuck Silver Medalist, Finding Emo and Conquer.
Joel has enjoyed many different roles since starting his career in comedy, from being the face of MTV, writing and presenting their daily news bulletins, to presenting Live In Chelsea, the live E4 aftershow for the hit series Made In Chelsea. He has also appeared in How to Survive a Disaster Movie (Channel 5), co-starred in the hugely successful Impractical Jokers on BBC Three, and has numerous acting credits to his name, including Skins on E4 and Popatron on BBC Two. Joel has performed stand up on Russell Howard’s Good News and appeared twice on Nick Grimshaw’s Sweat the Small Stuff.
The last year has been huge for Joel as he became team captain on two major TV shows. In 2014 he was captain on ITV2’s Reality Bites and in 2015 he became the regular on Sky1’s prime time music and comedy show Bring the Noise.
John Gordillo is a Perrier Award-nominated English director and comedian who has directed shows by the comedian Eddie Izzard and was the host and co-creator of The RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance), a daily late-night topical comedy talk show. The show ran for 60 episodes until BBC Choice was rebranded as BBC Three.
Gordillo returned to stand up in 2006, taking three critically successful solo shows to the Edinburgh festival in 07, 08 and 09. His fourth show Cheap Shots at the Defenceless premiered at the 2013 Edinburgh Festival and played at Sheffield, Glasgow and New Zealand festivals. It was nominated Best Show at Leicester Comedy Festival in 2014.
Gordillo has also worked extensively as script editor/director for other comedians including Scott Capurro, Seann Walsh, Josh Widdicombe, Shappi Khorsandi, Dara Ó Briain, Paul Chowdhry, Michael Mcintyre, Mark Steel and Reginald D Hunter. In 2013, he directed the live tour, DVD and TV versions of Hunter’s Live: In the Midst of Crackers.
In 2014 Gordillo produced and co-directed the second series of Freewheeling with Ross Noble for Dave TV. In 2015 Gordillo directed the live DVD Dylan Moran: Off the Hook and has written an independent feature script which, according to his website and an interview with Stuart Goldsmith he will direct.
In March 2016 his work-in-progress stand up set won Best Show at the Leicester Comedy Festival.
Gareth Richards’ hilarious stand-up, silly jokes and gorgeously low-key comedy songs have made him an instant favourite on the comedy circuit. In 2010 he was nominated for Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer.
Gareth has appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News, Live at the Electric (BBC3) and in January performed live on Radio 1 on two separate occasions. Gareth co-hosted Frank Skinner’s Sony award-winning Absolute Radio show for two years and supported Frank on his 2014 tour.
