Local MP Brian Mathew has been unanimously reselected by local Liberal Democrat members as the party’s candidate for the Melksham and Devizes constituency at the next general election.
Over the past two years Brian has worked with residents, community groups and local organisations on a wide range of campaigns.
A spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats said, “These have included securing the return of NHS audiology services to Melksham Hospital, campaigning to save Bradford-on-Avon Fire Station, pushing for progress on Devizes Gateway Station and pressing ministers for action on flooding, driving test backlogs and rural healthcare.
“The decision reflects the hard work and campaigning Brian has undertaken since his historic election in 2024, both in Parliament and across the constituency.”
Brian said, “I am incredibly grateful to local Liberal Democrat members for placing their trust in me once again. It has been a real privilege to serve as the Member of Parliament for Melksham and Devizes. Every week I meet residents, businesses, schools, charities and community groups who care deeply about where they live. Representing them and helping tackle the issues they face is the best part of this job.
“Since being elected, I’ve worked hard to be a visible and accessible local MP. Whether that’s holding advice surgeries, visiting schools, speaking up in Parliament or bringing organisations together to help solve local problems, I’ve always believed that listening comes first. To that end, I will be embarking on my annual summer tour in August, visiting dozens of villages in our area.
“There is still plenty of work to do. I want to continue fighting for better local healthcare, stronger public services, improved transport links and the investment our towns and villages deserve. I look forward to continuing that work over the months and years ahead.”
