Mum’s running challenge boosts 3G pitch fundraiser

A local mum has completed a 150km running challenge, raising more than £600 towards Melksham Town Football Club’s campaign for a new 3G pitch.

Dominika Paget ran 10km every other day throughout July, often in temperatures of up to 32C, to support the club’s efforts to purchase and install the pitch.

Her son, Harry, plays for the under-10s Typhoons. Dominika said poor winter conditions mean the team is often unable to play, highlighting the need for a dedicated 3G pitch.

She said, “At the moment Melksham Town are using the 3G pitch at Melksham Oak School but it is flooded all the time. Our children don’t play throughout the winter. You might get some spots in Chippenham or Devizes but it costs money to hire those as well. It just makes sense for Melksham Town to have one so we don’t have to go anywhere else.”

The club had asked each player to raise £150 towards the project. After Harry broke his wrist, Dominika decided to take on the challenge on his behalf.

“The challenge was quite hard because I was running in 32-degree heat, which was not great, but it got better,” she said.

Dominika completed the 150km challenge at Bromham Community Hub on Saturday 25th July, where family, friends and supporters gathered for celebratory drinks and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

She initially hoped to raise £150 but has so far raised more than £600 for the project.
