MORTONS Print, who print your local newspaper, Melksham News, has been named Regional Newspaper Printer of the Year for the second year in a row and took first place honours in the Niche Market Newspaper of the Year category at the Newsawards 2018.
The success follows on from last year’s triumph at the PrintWeek 2017 awards, when the company was named the UK’s Newspaper Printer of the Year 2017.
The company impressed judges with the high quality of its print work on titles including Cage & Aviary Birds, the Stratford-upon-Avon Herald, Teesdale Mercury and, since September last year, your full colour Melksham News.
Ian Drew, editor of Melksham News said, “We spent a lot of time researching which company to use for our switch to full colour and these awards show we made the right decision.
“The new-look paper has gone down really well with readers and advertisers and we’ve been absolutely delighted with the quality of printing from Mortons.”
Judges praised the printers for its “stand out” work on these popular titles, commenting on how “some images looked like they were about to fly off round the room.”
Mortons had achieved “strikingly sharp imagery, so well printed in a portfolio enhanced by the use of quality substrates”.
For the award for ‘Niche Market Newspaper of the Year’, the criteria was for how well the publications understand and cater for their target audience. According to the verdict, the winning title Cage & Aviary Birds was “vibrant, highly punchy, and a fantastic all-round quality title that was a runaway winner”.
The judging panel “loved the fabulous photography, the superb production values and the wonderful imaginative content that hits the spot for bird lovers”.
Steve Wickwar, print director of Mortons Media Group Ltd said, “I’m absolutely thrilled that our production team has won the ‘Regional Newspaper Printer of the Year’ award following up on last year’s success.
“It is an outstanding achievement for us, particularly as the event organisers believe that we may well be the very first to do so.”
