A COUPLE from Melksham are celebrating their blue sapphire anniversary after 65 years of marriage.
Esme and John Lambert, got married in Melksham’s St Michael’s Church on 21st August 1948.
John, originally from London come to the area as a result of the war and began working at the Avon, where he met Esme who worked in the canteen.
Shortly after their wedding, John had military service which meant he spent some time in Germany, before returning and remaining in the area ever since.
Esme put the secret of their long marriage down to always talking to each other and never arguing. She said, “We have always talked things through and that has meant we have never really argued. Many people don’t belive that – but it’s true. Other then the odd disagreement we have always got on and never had any proper arguments.
“We help one another through things and share the same interests which has helped. We enjoy walking, so have been everywhere together on walking holidays.”
The couple who now live in Atworth have one son, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
