THE team behind the new town centre 24-hour gym say they are thrilled with the public’s reaction.
Aztec Fitness Rooms, located in the former Peacocks building on Bank Street, opened six weeks’ ago, offering a fully equipped gym, a studio room for fitness classes and external hire, and shower and changing facilities – all accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to all its members. In addition, there is a smoothie and milkshake bar, that is available to both members and non-members.
“It’s been very good!” said business owners David Pearce and Chris Shuttleworth, speaking to Melksham News. “We have surpassed our targets for membership sign-ups, which is pretty damn cool! And the feedback we have had from members and the reviews online has been overwhelmingly positive.
“The number of classes we offer has almost doubled in six weeks and for a lot of them there are waiting lists to join them – it’s been incredibly successful. We recently added yoga classes – and already there are eight people on the waiting list!
“We feel we have created a welcoming environment that has a great friendly team – a lot of people have said that new gyms can be quite intimidating, but they find ours really relaxing and inviting. A lot of people stay after their workout and sit at the smoothie bar and chat to other members – and that was one of our aims, to create a ‘community’ that welcomes everyone, no matter what shape or size you are.
“Being in the centre of town, our aim is to be part of the community and do charity work – for example, we recently raised money for Wiltshire Mind during Mental Health Awareness Week, by donating the takings from our day passes.”
For those thinking about joining the gym, the pair say, “If people are not sure about joining, we have day and week passes available, which people can us to dip their toe in and experience what we can offer.”
