Bleed control kits are being installed across Melksham as part of efforts to improve emergency response and community safety.
The kits, which contain equipment to help treat severe bleeding before paramedics arrive, will be placed alongside key defibrillator sites around the town.
They have been pur-chased from the anti-knife crime charity Owen’s World Foundation, with funding provided by Gompels, following a resolution at Melksham Town Council’s full council meeting in March.
Rollout
Chief Executive Officer of Melksham Town Council, Hayley Bell, said the rollout would improve access to potentially life-saving equipment.
She said, “Bleed kits are designed to provide immediate life-saving equipment in the event of a serious injury involving catastrophic blood loss, helping members of the public to respond effectively while emergency services are en route.
“The council recog-nised the potential benefits that strategically located bleed kits can bring to the community and welcomed the opportunity to work with local organisations, partners and residents to improve awareness and accessibility.
Ongoing commitment
The discussion high-lighted the council’s ongoing commitment to supporting initiatives that help create a safer and more resilient Melksham for everyone.”
The new kits form part of a separate rollout from kits previously purchased by the town council earlier this year, after concerns were raised that they could not be registered with emergency services.
The latest equipment will be registered with the ambulance service, allowing call handlers to direct members of the public to the nearest kit and provide guidance during an emergency.
They will be located at the Assembly Hall, Evie’s Kitchen, the fire station, Bath Road toilets, The Water Meadow pub and Melksham Premier shops.
As part of the roll-out, Owen’s World Foun-dation will also deliver community training sess-ions for residents, staff and volunteers, aimed at building confidence in responding to serious bleeding incidents.
The first session will take place on Wednesday 22nd July at 6pm at Melksham Town Hall. The free session will cover different types of bleeding and how to respond with and without a bleed kit. Spaces are limited to 40 and booking is required.
