Two Wiltshire authors have started a new venture to encourage people to have a go at creative writing.
Jenny Kane, who grew up in Melksham, and Alison Knight, have set up their own business called ‘Imagine Creative Writing’ and are offering workshops, courses and talks on the craft of writing.
The two writers met through the Romantic Novelists’ Association and between them write in a variety of genres including contemporary women’s fiction, historical crime, erotic romance, young adult time-slip adventures, children’s picture books, radio drama and memoir.
“We both love telling stories and are fascinated by the process of creative writing,” said Alison Knight. “Writing can be a very isolating past-time and when we start out it’s difficult to know if we’re making any real progress. Both Jenny and I have been lucky to have had some incredibly gifted teachers, and support from writers’ networks to help us get to this point where we’re both multi-published authors. We want to share what we’ve learned through Imagine Creative Writing Workshops and give others the chance to develop their writing voice in a supportive and inspiring atmosphere.”
On Saturday 1st July, the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre in Cocklebury Road, Chippenham, will host an Imagine workshop called ‘So you want to be a romance writer…’ The workshop is suitable for beginners and experienced writers, and will take participants through the requirements of the genre and the expectations of the reader, and look at the wide range of possibilities there are for romance writers to find their voice and tell their unique romantic stories. It runs from 1pm-4pm. Tickets cost £25 and are available from the History Centre, telephone: 01249 705500.
Regular writing workshops will also take place on the second Saturday of every month from 10th June, at the award-winning Hazelwood Beauty Spa in Sutton Benger.
Both Jenny Kane and Alison Knight continue to write books and both have a number of projects in the pipeline. “Starting this business alongside our writing careers is the perfect set-up for both of us,” said Jenny Kane. “We love to write, we love to talk about writing and we love to inspire and encourage other people to write.”
