Did you know that at the Art House Cafe in Melksham (run by the Rotary Club) you can see a new exhibition of work by local artists every month?
December’s exhibition includes textile and mixed media work by Kay Ames, pastel drawings by Val Coyne and large scale paintings inspired by nature by Hayley Jones.
Kay has lived in Melksham all her life and her work, which is inspired by mythology, history and the landscape is textile based, but includes mixed media, embroidery and painting and drawing.
Val worked for the Cats Action Trust for 17 years, so it is not surprising that her delicate drawings are of cats and kittens. She has been drawing and painting since childhood, but has only recently started using pastels.
Hayley has also been painting all her life and now teaches art in Marlborough. Her striking canvases are bright and colourful and are inspired by nature.
All the work on display is for sale, so there may be some ideas for Christmas gifts for friends or family -or even yourself.
The commission on any sale of art work, plus all the profits from the cafe, go to local charities and so far, with your help, the Rotary Club have been able to donate over £20,000. Coffee and home-made cakes and lunches are also available.
