The owners of Primate Clothing, Melksham’s 5 Star rated t-shirt and workwear printing company, are celebrating moving into new premises on the Bowerhill Industrial Estate, after the business outgrew their family home.
With orders flooding in and interest in their business reaching fever-pitch, owners Chris Shuttleworth and partner April Reeves, came to the realisation at the end of last year that Primate Clothing was quickly outgrowing its humble beginnings.
“We have grown rapidly since we set up the business. We took on more staff last year to help, but it was the build-up to Christmas when we realised that our home wasn’t big enough,” explained Chris.
“When the Christmas orders started coming in it was just insane. We had everyone we knew who could lend a hand in our house from 9am in the morning until 7-8pm at night trying to get the work done. It was almost like a sweat-shop!” he joked.
“It was then that April turned to me and said, ‘That’s it, we’re not doing this here again next year!’”
The family-run business moved into its new premises on Pegasus Way in Bowerhill earlier this month.
“It’s amazing!” said Chris. “It was stressful, but it’s going really well. The new premises means that customers can now walk in and visit us – we’ve had our first walk-in clients, which is fantastic.”
April said, “I want to say thank you to all our staff, and to my family members Conrad, Jane, Adam and James, and their business Elise Projects who helped kit out the unit, for all their support and hard work.”
Chris added, “And a huge thanks to the clients who have supported us since the beginning. Although we were a newly established business, there were people who gave us a go, many of which have not only become regular clients, but also close friends. Because of their support we can now focus on expanding the products and services that we offer. We plan to triple the amount of products we have online during this year.”
Primate Clothing design and print t-shirts, workwear, gym wear, stag and hen do tops, hats, baby clothes, sports team kits, flyers, business cards and also offer both graphic design and web design services. Recently they expanded their range of products to offer embroidery, stickers, vehicle graphics and sign writing.
Despite boasting both local and international clients with their products regularly being sent around the world, Chris and April remain committed to the local community. “We plan to sponsor Melksham Christmas Lights and Melksham Carnival this year and we currently support local fundraising efforts including Evan’s World Challenge, Raising for Raife and In Charley’s Memory” said April.
“We also offer discounts to charity events, and with our no minimum order and no setup fee service, we can help local businesses who might want only a few items printed.
“We would also be interested in hearing from any small local teams, who are new or are growing, who might like sponsorship from us.”
Primate Clothing is open Monday to Friday 9am-6pm and Saturday 10am-4pm at 15 Pegasus Way, Bowerhill, Melksham, SN12 6TR.
