The new manager of a Melksham charity shop is promising a warm welcome to donors, customers and volunteers.
Helen West is now running the Barnardo’s store in Verbena Court, behind the Water Meadow restaurant on the eastern edge of the town.
She was previously a store associate at the charity’s popular shop in Pewsham, Chippenham, but was promoted within just six months.
Now she hopes to recruit more volunteers so that they can raise as much money as possible for vulnerable children and young people across the UK.
Helen said, “I’m delighted to have been given responsibility for one of the charity’s newest stores.
“In its first year alone, the local community generously donated 3,500 bags of items, but hopefully this figure will continue to grow because all of the Verbena Court shops are now occupied.
“I’m really looking forward to recruiting volunteers to help with sorting the stock, steaming the clothes, pricing the items or serving the customers.
“It’s a great way for people of all ages to make new friends, as well as providing a valuable addition to the CV for those looking for employment.
“I’m proud to support a charity which transforms the lives of hundreds of thousands of vulnerable children and young people and their families every year. The Melksham store makes a valuable contribution to Barnardo’s fundraising efforts which enables this important work to continue across the UK.
“I hope the local community will carry on supporting us – as donors, shoppers or volunteers – so that we can help to give children the best possible start in life.”
The store is currently open Tuesday-Saturday from 9am-5pm but will soon trade during the same hours on Mondays, and then on Sundays from 10am-4pm too.
The team welcome donations of good-quality clothes, books, toys, games, accessories and bric-a-brac, as well as offers of help from potential volunteers.
