A LOCAL woman has begun fundraising for charity as she prepares to take on next year’s London Marathon.
Sandra Sharratt is taking on the challenge of running the London Marathon for the second time, first running the race two years ago for Dorothy House.
This year, Sandra will run in aid of the charity Smile Train. The charity offers surgery and support to children around the world suffering from untreated clefts. Most cannot eat or speak properly and aren’t allowed to attend school or hold a job.
Sandra said, “I don’t find running easy, and after I ran the London Marathon in 2017 I said I would never run a marathon again! However, the thought that I could help to change a child’s life for the better has motivated me to put on my running shoes and start training again.”
Sandra is trying to raise £3,000 to provide treatment for 20 children. To help, Sandra is planning a range of fundraising events. On Monday 15th October, the White Hart at Atworth is supporting Smile Train with a pub quiz. Teams of up to 4 people can enter for the price of £2.50 each.
On Friday 16th November, Sandra will host a zumba party at Bromham Social Centre – a fun exercise class for only £6.
Next year, on Saturday 9th March, the ‘A bit of a Do’ event returns to Spencer’s Social Club. Tickets cost £15.
If you would like to attend any of these events please contact Sandra on her Facebook page ‘Dottyladyrunning’. To donate to Smile Train please go to https://uk.virginmoney giving.com/Dottylady running.
