MELKSHAM will be treated to a journey back in time as Melksham Historical Association unveils a special pop-up museum at Melksham Assembly Hall this month.
The event, on Thursday 16th May, promises an evening of discovery and nostalgia, offering a glimpse into the town’s rich history.
The museum will feature a fascinating array of displays and artefacts, showcasing some of the items held by the association on behalf of the town.
Among the highlights of the evening will be the rare opportunity to see the town stocks; Spencer’s factory clock – a piece of Melksham’s industrial heritage, which once marked the passing of time for workers in the local factory; and a life-size replica of the full list of subscribers from 1937, when the King George V Playing Fields were purchased.
The museum will also feature a range of other displays and artefacts, each telling its own story about Melksham’s past.
“This is our second event following last year’s successful first one,” said Paul Carter, chairman of the Melksham Historical Association. “We’re thrilled to be able to share these treasures with the public and to celebrate our rich heritage. Don’t miss this chance to step back in time and explore the history of Melksham!”
The pop-up museum will be open for one evening only, from 7pm at Melksham Assembly Hall. Admission is £3, and all are welcome. The bar will be open.
