OVER £6,000 was given out to local groups at last month’s Melksham Area Board to support their work in the community.
A total of £6,430 was shared between five organisations from the Melksham area, as part of the ongoing community grants scheme.
Melksham Girlguiding received a £1,000 contribution towards the cost of insulating its 50-year-old wooden headquarters.
The St. John Ambulance Melksham unit was awarded £1,000 for a new defibrillator, supplies to keep it operational for three to five years, and a training defibrillator.
1st Bowerhill Scout Group received £1,500 in two parts – to be spent on shelving and storage equipment, camping equipment and musical instruments.
Avon Bowls Club was awarded £750 towards a new floor covering in their clubhouse.
Atworth Village Hall and Recreation Ground Committee was given £2,180 to provide new children’s play equipment in the recreation field to replace pieces that have been there for around 50 years.
Community area grants are open to local clubs, groups, organisations and charities looking to make a difference in the community.
