Plans to build 1,300 homes between the villages of Semington and Hilperton have been revealed.
In a pre-application consultation, developer Lightwood Strategic says it wants to build a new “mixed-use neighbourhood” between the villages.
The new proposals include a village centre and a new 420-space primary school. Allotments, village greens and sports pitches also form part of the proposal.
The proposed development site extends to around 117 hectares of agricultural land and is bisected by the A361 Trowbridge-to-Melksham road.
For this reason, new pedestrian crossings, roundabouts and gateway features would be introduced to slow down traffic.
The southeastern part of the site would be given over to a new country park at Hag Hill. The developer has said it will work to maintain the habitats of Bechstein’s bats.
A new cycleway would create new links to Hilperton and Trowbridge.
The westernmost part of the site was allocated for 600 homes, a primary school, a convenience store, and land for an 80-child nursery in Wiltshire’s Local Plan, which has been withdrawn.
The proposal is open for public consultation until 12th July at https://www.greatwhaddonconsultation.com/
