MORE houses could be built on fields near Berryfield as a new planning application has been lodged for 160 homes in the area.
Developer Terra Strategic held a public meeting in December and has now submitted official plans to build the estate off the Semington Road roundabout.
If approved, the application could mean around 300 new homes are built between Melksham and Berryfield over the coming years, as planning was given in 2016 for 150 across the road.
Berryfield residents have been opposed to building in the area in the past, and Wiltshire Council had objected to the nearby development on the grounds that it would ruin the countryside and urbanise the area between Berryfield and Melksham.
The planning documents claim ‘the proposed development would not be perceived as significantly closing the gap between Berryfield and Melksham’.
It is proposed that there will be a mix of one to four bedroom homes, and that 48 of them – the nationally recommended 30% – will be affordable housing.
