A MAJOR revamp of Holt’s tannery site came a step closer to reality last month when developers officially applied for planning permission after showing proposals to villagers in January.
The proposals, which have been years in the making, look to transform the semi-derelict industrial site near the Glove Factory into a mixture of housing, business and community facilities.
The plans incorporate many of the existing buildings surrounding the Grade II listed J&T Beaven office building, and the red brick chimney will remain.
The retained buildings will be renovated to provide workshop, studio and office spaces, which the design says will have “an emphasis on specialised craft-based production.” The old buildings will also have leisure and community uses, with a coffee house, bakery, café, informal village cinema-music-room, and a new barn will be built to accommodate a spa/yoga studio.
Plans also request outline permission to build 66 new homes on the site on the Midlands, in a mixture of one to three bedroom properties. The developer predicts that 45 new jobs could be created at the development.
Wiltshire Council is accepting public comments on the proposals until Friday 1st April, and is expected to decide on whether to grant permission by 25th May.
